Customise Your Ride with Chrome Rims

When customising your car an impressive paint job and modding the specs will certainly get you some notice but customising is not completed without a set of flamboyant chrome rims. Rims are the devices linking the tires to the axle. The majority are made from a magnesium and aluminium alloy though other materials are used. Rims differ in how wide they are, from wide for large trucks to narrow for motorbikes and bicycles. Broad rims are more stable but do produce more vibration which can be unpleasant. Narrower rims are not so stable and give inferior handling.

What Makes Chrome Rims So Attractive?

They serve a practical use in attaching the wheels to the vehicle but they can also enhance the beauty of the vehicle. A number of rims are painted to harmonize with the vehicle but the majority of people like the look of attractive, shiny chrome plated rims. Chrome plating is also used on additional parts of vehicles, for instance fenders, mirrors and exhausts and the luminous sheen catches the eye and is aesthetically very satisfying. Chrome rims serve no practical purpose that can’t be achieved by regular rims and can cost over $2500 per rim. The best rims are manufactured from an aluminium/steel alloy and are superior to all steel wheels as they are lighter and as a result give enhanced vehicle performance. Aluminium is very light and when alloyed with steel or magnesium gives a very light rim that enhances the steering ability of the vehicle. Chrome rims are more expensive than metal wheels covered with a silver finish as the electroplating process is a longer, more involved process. Many of people also admire black chrome wheels.

Taking Care of Alloy Rims

Maintain your chrome plated rims and other chrome parts by using car cleaner in water and cleaning with a sponge. Rinse then dry with a soft cloth. If necessary use a cleaner specifically made for chrome as some cleaners may cause damage. After they are dry add a shielding coat of car polish. Any dust or grime will stick to the wax instead of the chrome and will make cleaning easier. Avoid using car washes as soaps used may damage the chrome or have been known to cause scratching. Just use products that can be used on chrome as others contain acid which will cause damage the surface.

Where to Buy Chrome Rims

You can find chrome rims all over the place as well as online and you can find chrome rims very easily. Always make sure the ones you purchase, even though they are low-priced, are good quality to make sure that they last and don’t become dull after a short time of use. Chrome rims should stay looking good for ten years or more if you take good care of them.
